Large surfaces for green energy

KM2: we adopt papermaking technologies to produce large functional areas at low cost in an initiative that we call KM2 (for "square-kilometres"). The objective is to develop cost-effective and scalable solutions for CO2-free harvesting, storage and use of electrical energy that help the world to mitigate the climate change. Our applications include solar cells, wind power, supercapacitors and batteries. 

In this area the materials research of FSCN is complemented with power electronics, printed electronics and electrical motors from STC research centre. The joint technology platform is unique in Sweden covering everything from the efficient industrial production of materials to the systems integration of complete product concepts. It is attracted a large number of materials and equipment manufacturers as well as technology companies.

Low-voltage power-line for electrical vehicles is one of the new system concepts that we study, complete with the energy storage, electrical motor and control system.

MILAB is our new Materials and Innovation Laboratory. MILAB is built for the development and coordination of materials science knowledge. The goal is to support of innovations, services, products, businesses and research and to create a platform for researchers, students and companies to meet and work side by side. MILAB is a strategic initiative with private companies, public sector and the innovation clusters in our region to strengthen our region.
