Aim

The aim of the course is that the student shall acquire basic knowledge in film techniques, producing stories with moving images and the editing of video material.

Course objectives

After passing the course students will:
- be able to describe basic image language
- be able to account for the workflow from written word to image
- demonstrate basic knowledge of video production
- be able to shoot and edit digital video

Content

The course deals with:
- introduction to creative writing, story structure and film grammar
- translation of word to image
- visual image language
- videography
- editing video
- storytelling with moving images

Entry requirements

At least one year of successfully completed full-time study at university level.
Photography BA (A), Digital Photography, 7.5 credits

Description

This course is for students to take their photographic skills further and experience how to develop cinematic images and to explore the process of filmmaking. The course will introduce students to dramaturgy, the visual language of film and how to manage a short production.

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

The course will include lectures, seminars and practical assignments.

Examination form

The grade is based on individual and group assignments which can include written, oral and practical examinations. Mandatory attendance applies to certain lectures, tutorials and exercises as well as at all seminars and lectures. Absence and late submission of data may negatively affect the course grade.

Unless otherwise specified, all written submissions shall be used using well-known source systems such as Harvard, Oxford (notes) or APA-Style (Harvard variant).

The examiner has the right to offer alternative examination arrangements to students who have been granted the right to special support by Mid Sweden University’s disabilities adviser.

Grading system

Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

Other information

Eventual expenses for travel, materials and technical equipment are paid for by the student.
