Photography BA (A), Light and Form, 7.5 credits

Aim

The aim of the course is for students to learn the basic principles of photographic lighting. The course will introduce students to typical lighting situations and methods for modifying and shaping light.

Course objectives

After passing the course students will:
- be able to measure light quantity
- be able to describe light quality
- be able to apply basic knowledge of lighting for photography
- comprehend basic colour theory
- operate photographic lighting equipment

Content

The course deals with:
- Artificial and natural lighting
- Lighting theory
- Light modification
- Colour theory
- Professional lighting techniques
- Camera settings

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

The course will include lectures, seminars and practical assignments.

Examination form

I101: Assignment 1, 1.5 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)

I201: Assignment 2, 1.5 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

I301: Assignment 3, 3 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

W100: Workshops, 1.5 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)

Unless otherwise specified, all written submissions shall be using the well-known source systems such as APA-Style.

The examiner has the right to offer alternative examination arrangements to students who have been granted the right to special support by Mid Sweden University’s disabilities adviser.

Grading system

Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.

Eventual expenses for travel, materials and technical equipment are paid for by the student.
