Aim

Students will acquire knowledge such as concepts, both simple and more advanced, relationships and methods within solid state physics that are required in various engineering applications and for further studies in physics.

Course objectives

Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:
- use concepts in solid state physics,
- use physical and mathematical relationships to solve problems in solid state physics.

Content

Crystal structure, crystal dynamics, free electrons in metals, energy bands, semiconductors, semiconductor devices.

Entry requirements

Physics BA (C), Statistical Mechanics, 3 credits.

The teaching is conducted in the form of one or more: lectures, video lectures, seminars or tutoring. The teaching may be wholly or partly given in English.
