Aim

This course offers the student the opportunity to further develop their independent research skills in the field of tourism geographies), which includes activities such as data collection, analysis, and the preparation of findings and conclusions. Through these activities, the student will gain a thorough understanding of all phases of the research process.

Course objectives

After completed course, the student should be able to:

  • Justify the choice of theories and research methods relevant to the student’s work in tourism geographies.
  • Plan and conduct data collection, analysis, research findings and conclusions.
  • Show advanced knowledge in research ethics and researcher ethics.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in scientific writing skills.
  • Communicate insights, research findings, and/or conclusions to various stakeholders.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of the research process.

Content

This course supports the student’s independent work as part of the Master by Research program. The student takes part in how a research project is organized, and developed, and, with feedback from active researchers, plans and conducts data collection, analysis, findings and conclusions. The central aspect of the course is to stimulate critical reflective thinking and analytical skills within the chosen research area. Through these activities, the student will gain a thorough understanding of all phases of the research process.

Entry requirements

Admitted to the Research Preparatory Master's Program in Human Sciences, specializing in tourism. Completed courses of 45 credits within the program, of which 15 credits are in quantitative and qualitative methods.

Selection rules and procedures

The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.

Teaching form

Individual work planned and carried out in collaboration with researchers in the field. Teaching is conducted through supervision. Content and elements may vary depending on the research project and supervisor.

Mandatory attendance is required at examination sessions.

Teaching and feedback may be conducted in English.

Teaching will be through the Mid-Sweden web-based system.

0010: Written work and oral presentation, 15 Credits

The written and oral presentation of the project's components is structured in agreement with the supervisor/examiner.


In the case of a take-home exam or other written submission, the teacher may request a supplementary oral presentation to ensure that the student possesses the necessary knowledge. This is to confirm that the student is the actual author of the written work.


If a student has a decision from the coordinator at Mid Sweden University regarding educational support due to a disability, the examiner has the right to provide adapted examination for the student.
