Aim

The aim of the course is to introduce sociological concepts relevant for organizational and work life studies and give the student analytical tools for problematizing social phenomena and situations. The course also provides knowledge on the ways sociology could be utilized in studies of work and organizations.

Course objectives

After the course, the student should show ability to:

- describe concepts and perspectives regarding theories about work, organization and society.
- discuss on a general level the role of work and organizations in society.
- problematize the role of organizations in processes of societal changes.

Content

The course aims in an understanding of the role of work and organizations in society, with a theoretical base of modern sociology. The role of organizations in broad societal change will be in focus.
