Aim
The aim of the course is for the student to gain a deeper knowledge in a field of materials science, carry out a research project in the area, which includes data collection and analysis, and present results and conclusions orally and in writing in English.
Course objectives
After completing the course, the student shall be able to:
- carry out a scientific investigation in the field of materials science
- use appropriate methods for data collection and analysis
- assess the accuracy of the results, and draw conclusions from the results obtained
- compare the results obtained with results from previous research
- communicate in English, both orally and in writing, their results and arguments in a scientific manner, according to accepted and given norms
Content
Scientific investigation in material science. Data collection and analysis that is adapted to the project's research objectives. Comparison with results from previous research. Presentation of results and conclusions in English according to given standards.
Entry requirements
Engineering Physics MA, Project I in Materials Science, 6 credits.
Selection rules and procedures
The selection process is in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance and the local order of admission.
Teaching form
A supervisor from a research group at the university is provided. The student books regular meetings with the supervisor (approx. 1-2 short meetings per week). At the supervisor meetings, the supervisor gives the student feedback and guidance.
Examination form
M100: Research Presentation, Oral Presentation, 1.5 Credits
Grade scale: Fail (U) or Pass (G)
The research project, its results and conclusions, must be presented at a seminar according to given norms.
R100: Scientific Paper, 7.5 Credits
Grade scale: Seven-grade scale, A, B, C, D, E, Fx and F. Fx and F represent fail levels.
All examinations are in English.
