Håkan Edlund was born 1966 in Sundsvall, he studied chemistry as a major and received a PhD 1997 in physical chemistry. The research was about surfactants in solution, a joint collaboration between Umeå University and Mid Sweden University (Mitthögskolan). Håkans research interest today is still surface- and colloid chemistry focused on surfactants and biomolecules and their functionality in aqueous solutions. The research is aiming on finding environmental solutions of the scientific issues.

After beeing a post doctoral fellow in the US he went back to MIUN. In 2000 Håkan was awarded the Akzo Nobel Nordic Research Prize in Surface- and Colloidal Chemistry, the grant is intended for innovative research and given younq scientists.

Teaching and tutoring

As a former dean and vice-dean of the Faculty of Education (ordförande, lärarutbildningsnämnden) and the chairman of RUN – Network for Regional Development within the area of promoting the teaching training programme at MIUN and competence improvement for teachers Håkan has a strong interest in the educational part at the university.

Other information

Håkan is also one of the founders of ChemseQ International AB a spin-off company where he is appointed EVP. Today ChemseQ is situated within the Åkroken Business Incubator.
