Certificates and reference
Table of contents
When you quit your position, you may request a certificate or reference.
There are two certificates and a reference that can be issued when you quit your position:
- Employers’ certificate
- Certificate of employment
- Letter of reference
Employers certificate
When your employment ends, your employer is required to provide you with an employers’ certificate upon your request. You will need this certificate if you intend to apply for unemployment benefit or an activity grant.
If you need an employers’ certificate, please contact the government Service Centre.
Certificate of employment
A certificate of employment contains details about your employment along with a short description of the duties you have had. The certificate does not contain any recommendations.
If you need a certificate of employment, please contact your HR administrator.
Letter of reference
If you have been employed for at least six months, you may request a letter of reference. Apart from the details included in the certificate of employment, this letter also contains an assessment of your professional skills, how you are perceived and the reason your employment was terminated.
If you need a letter of reference, please contact your immediate supervisor.
