EU funding
Here, there is information about some of the biggest EU financiers.
Horizon Europe
Horizon Europe is the latest EU framework programme for research and innovation. It has a budget of 95.5 billion Euros over the programme’s seven years time span (2021-2027). The programme has three prioritized areas:
- to strenghten EU’s scientific and technological base as well as the European research area,
- to support innovation capacity, competitiveness and job creation in the EU,
- to provide results pertaining to the questions that are most important for all of us: the protection of our socio-economic model and our values.
Horizon Europe is organized in three pillars:
Pillar 1: Excellent Science
Aims to strengthen and increase the excellence of EU’s scientific base
- European Research Council (ERC) – Excellent research undertaken by the best researchers and their teams
- Marie SkÅ‚odowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) – Gives researchers new knowledge and skills through mobility and education
- Research infrastructures – Integrated and connected world class research infrastructures
Pelare 2: Pillar 2: Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness
Aims to support important technology and solutions that form the basis of EU policies and sustainability goals
- Hälsa/Health
- Kultur, kreativitet och inkluderande samhällen/Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society
- Civil säkerhet för samhället/Civil Security for Society
- Digitala frågor, industri och rymden/Digital, Industry and Space
- Klimat, energi och mobilitet/Climate, Energy and Mobility
- Livsmedel, bioekonomi, naturresurser, jordbruk och miljö /Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment
Pillar 3: Innovative Europe
Aims to make Europe a frontrunner in market-creating innovation, and also to develop the overall European innovative landscape
- Europeiska innovationsrådet - European Innovation Council - Supports groundbreaking and market-creating innovation
- Europeiskt ekosystem för innovation - European Innovation Ecosystems - Connections between regional and national innovation actors
- Europeiska institutet för innovation och teknik (EIT) - European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) – promotes innovation by fostering the integration of the knowledge triangle of education, research and innovation

Interreg
Interreg is aimed at stimulating cooperation between regions inside and out of the European Union. There are a number of different programmes under the Interreg-umbrella, all funded by The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Structural Funds
Money from the structural funds are granted to projects aiming to increase growth and employment in Sweden. Tillväxtverket has by the Swedish government been given the task to manage the regional structural funds programmes in Sweden. Among other things, the money can be used to create strong research and innovation environments, promote increased entrepreneurship, and to promote more effective energy use.
NOTE! MIUN has its own internal routines for applications to the regional structural fund and the national regional fund. All applications are reviewed internally before being sent to Tillväxtverket.
