A computerized, lifelike model of a human – one that can imitate our behaviour and our reactions. It sounds like science fiction, but it became very much a reality at Mid Sweden University’s nursing programmes in the autumn of 2012.
The so-called patient simulator makes it possible for nursing students to practise their skills without putting patients at risk. This has proved to be positive both for the students’ learning and as a preparation for working Life.To begin with, Campus Sundsvall and Campus Östersund had three simulators each.
These have now been supplemented with patient simulators that are premature (born too soon) and one patient simulator that is capable of giving birth. A single patient simulator costs between 300 000 and 900 000 SEK.
